The Trekvogelpad is a long-distance hiking trail that runs through the Netherlands and is one of the most popular hiking trails in the country. It follows the migratory route of the birds and runs from the North Holland town of Bergen aan Zee along the Dutch coast, the Veluwe and the Utrechtse Heuvelrug to the German border near Enschede. One of the stages of this route leads from Noordeinde via de Rijp, Spijkerboor, Wormer- and Jisperveld to Haaldersbroek. Valerius Boutique Hotel is perfectly situated on this route.
Stage 3 Migratory Bird Trail
This stage of the Trekvogel Trail is about 20 kilometers long and leads through the beautiful North Holland landscape. The route starts in Noordeinde, a small village in the municipality of Alkmaar. From here the route leads through the picturesque town of De Rijp to Spijkerboor. De Rijp is known for its historic houses and narrow streets, while Spijkerboor is best known for its old fortifications from the time of the Amsterdam defense line.
Unique nature reserve
From Spijkerboor, the route continues through the Wormer and Jisperveld, a unique nature reserve consisting mainly of ponds, peat meadows and reed beds. This area is the perfect place to observe birds such as black-tailed godwit, lapwing, redshank and the rare ruffed sandpiper and enjoy the tranquility of nature. After crossing Wormer and Jisperveld, the route reaches Haaldersbroek, a small village known for its historic farmhouses.
